Bolivia's food is surprisingly good and very distinctive. Like most dishes in South America, meat is the main course accompanied by rice, potatoes, and shredded lettuce.
Main dishes
Empanada Saltena is a mixture of diced meat, chicken, chives, raisins, diced potatoes, hot sauce and peppers baked in dough - and it's every bit as good as it sounds! Lomo Montado is a fried tenderloin steak with two fried eggs on top, rice and fried banana. Picante de Pollo is a southern fried chicken, fried potatoes, rice, and salad with hot peppers. Chuno is a naturally freeze -dried potato used to make a variety of soups called Chairo. Lechon Al Homo is a young roast pig served with sweet potato and fried Plantains. If you are visiting the country during the holidays, ask for the "Picana", a Christmas dish made with many meats, vegetables, and rice
Drinks Bolivian beer is one of the best you'll find in South America. Look for the brand called Pacena.
