Eating out
Peru is arguably the gastronomic capital of South America. The large diversity of specialties because of the variance in each region. Lima, the capital is well known for its excellent gourmet foods, specializing in seafood with many great Chinese restaurants called Chifas.
Typical meals The more popular dishes from the costal region are Ceviche an uncooked fish marinated in lemon juice and spices served with onion, hot peppers, corn, sweet potatoes and flavored with corianders. Eescabeche a fried fish served with pickled vinegar, onions, sweet potato and corn. Chupe, a shrimp or other shellfish soup based in milk and herbs. Seco of Lamb made with coriander sauce, onion and garlic. Adobo de Carne, meat marinated in vinegar, garlic and onions. Anticuchos, grilled beef hearts, pickled in vinegar and spices served on skewers.
Drinks
The most popular alcoholic drink in the country is Pisco Sour. It's a cocktail made with lime juice, egg whites, and a touch of sugar and Pisco- a brandy made from white grapes. Another popular choice is Algarrobina cocktail, prepared with syrup made from the cabob tree. Other popular non-alcoholic drinks are made from Purple Cornand and Masato (monioc root), Aguajina (made from the Palm Fruit).
