Food and drink for Portugal 

Eating out
There are an excellent variety of restaurants, cafes and bars. Good traditional and international foods. Wines and cheeses are of very high quality.

Typical meals
Breakfast is simple and small, bread, rolls, toast, jam, butter and coffee are the morning greeting. Dinner's main meal usually begins with soup. Several to choose from, Caldo Verde a thick potato, cabbage and sausage soup. Sopa a Portuguesa, similar to Caldo Verde, with the hearty addition of beans, broccoli, carrots and turnips. Conja de Galinha, another favorite made with chicken and rice. Main courses like Ameijoas Ne Cataplano is steamed clams, sausages, ham, white wine, tomato, onion and herbs. Frango, or fried chicken, grilled, barbecued or roasted.

Drinks
Excellent wines, red, white, they even have a green one! Other popular drinks are Ports. Small espresso type cafe ends most meals.
