Food and drink for Spain

Foods
Food in Spain has many appealing flavors and has long been the source of pride to Spaniards. Many nights are spent with friends and family eating Tapas filled with robust Mediterranean flavors based on olive oil, garlic, tomatoes, peppers, grains and fish. Most suspect Spanish food to be spicy but it's generally not.

Tapas
Not to be missed are Spain's Tapas, appetizer that are offered before lunch and again before dinner in thousands of bars and taverns across the country. Tapas come in endless varieties and provide the opportunity to "graze" in casual and spirited surroundings. Eating Tapas offers a fun alternative to sitting down for a traditional meal.

Typical meals
Seafood is especially popular in the north, served with a yellow rice. Another popular dish, Fabada which is a type of bean stew. Spaniard also like a varied of different casserole, made from meats and potatoes with cheese and spice. They are famous for sausages, cheeses and sauces just in case casseroles are not really your thing.

Drinks
Spain is home to world re-knowned wines. This is born from a 3000 year old tradition and helped by one of the best climates for harvesting grapes - France's neighbor. Coffee is another favorite of the Spaniards. Be careful, some of it you can stand a spoon in. Your standard fare espresso, cortado (like a late light on the milk), cafe con leche (late heavy on the milk).
