Rate your language level
Read the below descriptions to best determine which level you place in a foreign language. You will also take a placement test on arrival but this helps us better prepare for your stay.

Low Beginner
No practical or functional ability to communicate or write in the language. Communication limited and generally consists of very few memorized words or phrases. Understanding is also limited to a few words with very little understanding of meaning.

Mid Beginner
Communication is limited to a few memorized words and simple phrases, conjugations, mostly based on basic needs or common interactions. Ability to understand basic or common phrases or questions if spoken slowly. May require the speaker to repeat with different words to capture simple meaning.

High Beginner
Ability to communicate in a limited capacity in simple conversation dealing in day to day circumstance using words, phrases and expressions. Communication contains long pauses and several tense errors. Vocabulary is still limited. Speakers often need to repeat for comprehension to be achieved. Ability to understand or read commonly used expressions, phrases or messages and signs.

Low Intermediate
Ability to communicate on a limited level in basic social settings, statement structures based on factual circumstance. Communicating with basic structures and limited vocabulary. Ability to communicate more comfortably with the present tense and express basic commands including ordering in restaurants, asking directions, buying things and discussing general topics. Ability to understand slower speech, misunderstandings occur regularly. Ability to understand the central idea or facts in simple written materials.

Mid Intermediate
Ability to communicate on a basic level in social situations. Able to respond to questions and interact in basic conversations in more common themes, personal likes and dislikes but there continues to be pauses and tense errors. Ability to understand sentences with less repetition.

High Intermediate
Ability to comprehend and use with greater accuracy tenses such as the simple present and future, present progressive and preterit. Has basic compreshension of the subjunctive but its use is greatly limited. Communication is more relaxed and can traverse other themes in social dynamics. Ability to communicate with larger vocabulary and some irregular verbs.

Advanced Levels
Ability to communicate with grammatical and structural accuracy in most settings. Ability to participate in topics both known and unknown, express opinions and hypothesize and with explanations all in most tenses. Ability to describe in varying detail any practical, professional, social or abstract idea.
