All students must have a passport to travel abroad. This is your official identification as a citizen of
your country. Passports are issued by the state department and are valid for 10 years. Passports are required to pass
border and custom authorities when you enter and leave your country and when crossing other national borders. For this reason they
should be kept in a secure place and accessible while traveling.
It takes 2 to six weeks to apply and receive a passport. There are services that can speed up the process but there is an extra fee. Occasionally certain students have been delayed so we ask all our students to start the process as soon as possible.
It's recommended to take a photo copy of your passport as well as credit cards in case of loss or
theft. Loss or theft of a valid passport should be reported immediately to Passport Services, or to
the nearest passport agency. If the loss occurs during your study abroad trip, you should notify your nearest
country's consulate or embassy. Theft of a passport should also be reported to local police
authorities. A new temporary passport can be issued almost immediately.
It's important to remember that your passport is your most important legal document while traveling overseas. Guard and store it carefully and do not travel away from your study abroad or travel site, particularly away from your host country without your passport.

VISAS
A visa, usually a stamp or small document required for most students to enter into another country. These can
be applied for and obtained by the respective country's consulate in your home country. It is recommended that
students apply for tourist visas for visits less then 3 months. The process is simplified greatly for
tourists' visas.
Upon request FirstStep WORLD can issue your official acceptance letters to help students obtain the visa of their choice. Please save or copy your official acceptance letters.
